Clarkia

Finally, a wildflower name I can really get behind! These attractive native plants are named after William Clark (of Lewis and Clark). The striking blossoms are red, pink, or blue-purple, depending on soil and climate. Clarkia (Clarkia amoena) is a member of the Evening Primrose family and is also called Farewell to Spring.

We found these growing at the Jackson Bottom Wetlands (6/14/2013), where they have been planted from seeds. For more info about Clarkia and planting, go to the USDA fact sheet: http://plants.usda.gov/factsheet/pdf/fs_clam.pdf
