Yellow Parentucellia

We first noticed these odd looking flowers blooming in our field about three years ago. They appear  after I mow the tall grass down in June. Parentucellia (Parentucellia viscosa) are in the Figwort family and are not native. They bloom all summer in our field and seem to be spreading! I also spotted some at Jackson Bottom Wetlands. One guidebook refers to it as "a Mediterranean weed." Also called "Yellow Glandweed" in some guidebooks.

The first part of the name honors Pope Nicholas V, who in the 1400's established the Vatican Library and Botanical Gardens.
