Common Monkeyflower

Oregon is home to at least six types of Monkeyflower plants. The Common Monkeyflower (Mimulus guttatus) is also called the Seep-Spring Monkeyflower because it seems to prefer moist areas. Its bright yellow, trumpet shape blossom attracts all kinds of insects. That blossom is said to resemble the face of a monkey, although I have never really seen that similarity!

We found quite a few of these blooming along the new mile long north-south trail. 6/14/2013.
